Play - "allowing yourself to be free to create". - A Practical workshop for Magicians
Freedom in the initial stages of creation can bring great structure and drama to your performance of magic. This is a practical and hands on workshop aimed at magicians wishing to grow as performers. Whilst the workshop will not teach tricks and methods like your usual magic lecture, it will give you, as a participant, tremendous value through structures, ideas, and tools to help you grow and create for yourself.
Why play?
• We will use the act of play to loosen up and explore how it can assist us when building drama into our magic effects.
• Committing to your feelings. We will explore states of emotion in various levels. And why having an emotional connection to your actions guarantees your audience will too.
What is the point of having plot?
• We will explore dramatic structures.
• Play with Story ”plots” to give narrative direction to our magic.
• Conflict
Finally, please bring a small effect or prop along with you to the workshop. It doesn’t need to be a finished piece (if it isn’t the better).
